Welcome Islay

After we lost Stirling, I was not sure how I felt about getting a second kitty. On the one hand, it did not feel right to “replace” him, like it would be wrong to have a new kitty eating out of his bowl in such a short time. However, Aberdeen was moping about and only going outside to play when he could follow us around and spending the rest of the day in his bed. So I went with my gut and started on the search for a new friend for him. It did not take long and we found little Islay. She is 7 months old and grew up with other kittens and lots of contact, so she was used to people and socialized already. We picked her up this Monday and she is already settling in very well I am pleased to report. They are happy to eat next to each other (even from the same bowl sometimes!) and are generally being very friendly to one another. I am very relieved as it would have been awful to get Aberdeen a new friend and not have them get along… awkward!!

This morning I took them to the veterinarian – I go to MorEnergy in Onoway for all my cat and dog needs – to get spayed and neutered… no baby kittens thank you very much! Man they were displeased at having to travel in their little pet crates and go for the car ride and they sure let me know it. But now I am about to go pick them up and they are fixed, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped – ready for the big bad world. Of course, Islay has to stay in a bit longer before she can roam the farm freely but with the cold snap this week and temperatures of -30°C Aberdeen has not wanted to go out at all either.
